PHILLIP R. LOWE (he/him) is Assistant Professor of Costume Design for Utah State University Caine College of the Arts and a Theatrical Multi-Hyphenate who has been working in the field of “play” since the Late-1900’s.
A prominent Costume Designer and Artisan with over 200 production credits, Phil has also been known to wear the hats of Actor, Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Scenic Designer, Props Designer, Scenic Painter, Playwright, Studio Manager, and Drag Show Host.
Prior to joining the faculty at USU, Phil curated over 25 years of experience as an industry professional notably serving as Costume Studio Manager and Resident Costume Designer for Pioneer Theatre Company, Costume Director and Resident Designer for Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Adjunct Professor of Acting at Weber State University, and Resident Costume Designer for Park City’s Egyptian Theatre. As a freelance artist, Phil has designed costumes for The Grand Theatre, Lagoon Entertainment, Salt Lake Acting Company, In The Now Productions, Ogden Symphony Ballet Association, Spy-Hop Productions, Davis Arts: Shakespeare in the Park, Classical Greek Theatre Festival at Westminster College, and over 25 productions with Plan-B Theatre Company including the World Premiere of "The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later".
Phil is a proud alumnus and MFA graduate of Utah State University and was the 2002 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival recipient of the National Barbizon Award for his costume design of "The Lion in Winter" at USU’s Lyric Theatre. Phil continues his relationship with the Kennedy Center as a KC/ACTF Regional Respondent for student design work nationwide.
