THE GAZA MONOLOGUES

This piece is available to view on YouTube now. The monologues were originally written in 2010 by young Palestinians, with more added in 2014. The piece was originally performed at the United Nations but the authors were not allowed to be present. The complete monologues are read now by thirty-six actors and artists from Utah and across the United States. The original authors also wrote updated monologues in 2024 in response to the devastation faced by Gaza, and they are still being compiled on our YouTube page. The urgency of the moment and the development of emerging media to reach new audiences are reshaping how we are In The Now.

We are still actively encouraging donations to Ashtar Theatre’s GlobalGiving campaigns. The original fund was to support their Psycho-Social Intervention Program, then they are seeking development funds to remain independent, and most urgently - to provide immediate aid to the authors of The Gaza Monologues who are still in Gaza.  CANDY & DOROTHY - 2018

This piece was a gem in so many ways! Nell Gwynn worked on the original production of this and brought it up and we did it. Everyone on the team played multiple roles in addition to their stage time. We got great reviews and were even featured as “Essential A&E Pick” by SLC Weekly! This piece was put together during Pride Month while there were anti-trans bills happening in the Utah legislature, honing in on In The Now as a call to action for art. We consulted with Transgender Education Advocates (TEA) of Utah on this production, and hosted a talkback session with NYC playwright David Johnston.

The Last 5 Years - 2006 & 2007

This is the one that started it all! Featured in 2006 in The Salt Lake Tribune originally as a way for us to hone our craft, we also received a grant to perform the show in Wyoming the following spring. We started off with the spirit of Independent. Theatre. Now.
